US citizens enter visa-free: we check the EU Blue Card or Skilled Immigration Act route, review the employment contract and prepare the residence-permit appointment for after arrival.
2. Arrival & first week
Airport pickup on request, furnished temporary accommodation, bank account and city registration (Anmeldung).
3. Settling in
Permanent home search, utilities, school and kindergarten places, and orientation on daily life in your new German city.
4. Permits & renewals

Visa-free entry, permit after arrival
US citizens travel to Germany without a pre-arranged visa and file for the residence permit or EU Blue Card after arrival. We prepare that appointment so the start date is not delayed.
Driving licence depends on your state
Many US states have reciprocity with Germany — the licence can be exchanged directly. In other states, theory and practical tests plus the mandatory first-aid course and eye test apply. We check your state and organize either route.
Starting fresh on credit history
US credit scores do not carry over — the German SCHUFA record starts at zero. We guide the workaround: employer reference letters, starting in a furnished temporary home and building bank history early.
Social security treaty between the US and Germany
The US–Germany totalization agreement prevents double contributions, and contribution periods count toward retirement in both systems. We coordinate the registrations with your US tax advisor.
